Study Permit allows foreign nationals to receive academic or language education in Canada via international student status. A study permit is not a visa and does not provide a right to enter Canada. If the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship of Canada (IRCC) approves the study permit, they issue the temporary residence visa along with your study visa.
Individuals who want to study for more than 6 months in designated educational institutions (DLI) in Canada, must obtain a study permit. A tourist visa is sufficient for programs of less than 6 months but it is highly recommended to obtain a study visa for short term study as well if there is a program change or extension possibility in the future.
